Due to the recently effective HIPAA regulations enforced by the federal government, our office is no longer billing a non-custodial parent. The custodial parent (and/or the person who has signed the orthodontic contract) is responsible for payment of the account and will be billed directly. Our office is not responsible for any additional or alternate financial arrangements between custodial parents. If you have any questions concerning this office policy, please feel free to contact our office.
Orthodontic Insurance Coverage
Insurance for orthodontic services is provided through a contract between your employer and a dental insurance company. We participate with Tricare, Delta Dental and United Concordia Fee for Service. The coverage you receive is based solely on terms negotiated between these organizations.
If you have orthodontic benefits, it is part of your overall dental insurance coverage. However, orthodontic insurance may be different than your dental and medical insurance.
Our orthodontic office is not involved in determining which services are covered, the percentage of the fee that is covered, or whether a specific service may be covered at all.
While our goal is to provide you with the highest possible quality of care, insurance companies often cover only very basic services. These covered services are identified according to the cost of the insurance policy to your employer and the amount your insurance company is willing to pay. For this reason, not all treatment is covered by dental insurance.
Insurance Claims
As a service to our patients, we will prepare and file all necessary insurance forms. As I am sure you are aware, insurance can change at a moments notice. It is your responsibility to notify our office IN WRITING with any changes (for example, change of employment, insurance company address change, family name change, etc.) as they take place. Insurance claims have time limitations for filing and our office will not be responsible for changes not reported to us in a timely fashion. Most delays in payment are usually due to incorrect or old information. We cannot assume that information given for previous treatment is correct and we therefore request new forms be completed and signed for each family member in treatment.
Most misunderstandings about insurance can be avoided if you understand what your policy provides. Please take the time to review and understand what your policy pays and how you will be reimbursed prior to any treatment. It will be your responsibility to collect any payments the insurance company may owe you; however, we will be happy to assist you if there is a problem.
Orthodontics is a financial investment and we understand timely insurance reimbursements are very important to you. Together with your help we can avoid any possible delays in payment. That is why we appreciate your reporting any changes in insurance as soon as they are effective.
Our office is dedicated to providing you with a positive experience and our goal is to do everything we can to make processing insurance claims as easy as possible.
